The Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Francis De Sales was founded in 1838 in France as the embodiment of the dream and vision of the Servant of God Fr Peter Mary Mermier. The first MSFS from France arrived in Pondicherry in 1845. Their Indian successors continued their work and established many mission centers in different parts of the world to cater to all strata of society. The Missionaries of St. Francis De Sales commit themselves to the apostolate of education, apostolate of formation for mission, social apostolate and innovative ministries and apostolate for Renewal of Christian life as of their charisms. SFS seminary Ettumanoor established in 1967 belongs to the South West India Province of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales. The seminary was originally located in a place called Aramanoor but shifted to Ettumanoor in the year 1967. SFS seminary was initially the only minor seminary of the congregation for the whole of South India and had students from different states.
